Herger
Sworn in for 110th Congress On Thursday, January 4th, Congressman Herger was sworn in with 434 other Members to begin the 110th Congress. Wally was elected to his 11th term as a member of the House of Representatives in November, representing California's Second Congressional District. "I feel tremendously honored that the citizens of California's Second Congressional District have elected me once again to represent them in Washington," Herger stated. "I will continue working hard to earn and maintain the trust, confidence and faith they have vested in me, and to ensure our Northern California values are represented in Washington." "As I have always said, no one wins by accident, and so I am extremely grateful for the help and support I received throughout the election." "There are a number of important challenges that our nation must confront this year, such as supporting our troops as they continue prosecuting the War on Terror, securing our porous border, restraining federal spending, and reforming our federal entitlement programs -- Social Security and Medicare - so they will be sustainable for the future." "Our economy remains strong in large part because of the tax relief enacted in 2001 and 2003. Unfortunately, with the change in leadership in the House and Senate, extending that relief beyond 2010 - when it is scheduled to expire - will be a tremendously uphill battle. I will continue doing my part on the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee to see that this important tax relief remains in place, allowing Northern California families to keep more of their hard-earned money." "In addition, I am pleased to report that at the beginning of the year I was named the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade. Though I have been a longtime member of the Trade Subcommittee, as the lead Republican on that panel, I will be able to play even more of a leadership role in the House on the trade issues that are so important to agriculture, the economic backbone of our area." -END-
