When I say that I work for the people of the 2nd District, it is more than just a tagline. It is my guiding philosophy and the philosophy of my campaign.
The job of a Congressman is not to work for his own interests, and it is not to work for the interests of his political party - the job of a Congressman is to work for the people of his district.
Many politicians will try and impress you with their long list of endorsements from institutions and other politicians. These are well and good, but I prefer to ask for your endorsement.

I have worked with several other Congressmen in my 24 years in my field representing small business, and 10 years previous to that in banking. Congressman Herger has been highly supportive of a strong North State business climate, job creation and fewer government regulations, such as those that allowed for ADA nuisance lawsuits. While he is not a big fan of earmarking, he has fought diligently for funding to our area. I spent 6 years in the United States Air Force and there is no question that Mr. Herger is a strong advocate for veterans. As for his fortune, it was earned. It's called Capitalism.

I have been a Shasta County resident for over 30 years and a concerned veteran even longer. I have served on several veterans boards and committees, including as commander of the local submarine veteran's group (Cuttlefish Base) and as president of the Shasta County Veterans Affiliated Council (SCVAC).
I am writing to thank Congressman Wally Herger for his dedicated support of our Northern California veterans. He has always been available, to use his position, to press forward, in veterans' projects and programs.
As early as 1992, the congressman along with several area concerned citizens/veterans and public officials worked for an increased capacity of the local Veterans Affairs Clinic. The small, undermanned clinic was located on Eureka Way. Over a period of time the clinic was relocated and enlarged to the present VA clinic on Hartnell Avenue. Chico also has had its VA clinic and staff increased, as a part of the congressman's dedication to our local veterans. Yreka now has a small but available clinic that is saving hours of travel and the cost of travel funds.
